Toledo Where Three Cultures Coexist

Toledo is thirty minutes from Madrid by AVE. The Gothic Cathedral, the Moorish Mosque of Cristo de la Luz, and the Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca share a hilltop surrounded by the Tagus River. El Greco lived here 37 years; his Burial of the Count of Orgaz hangs in the Church of Santo Tome.

Practical notes: AVE from Atocha (30 min). The old city is steep. The marzipan from Santo Tome has been made by nuns since the Middle Ages.
